Crime

Crime Stoppers is an international success story. Born from an idea in Albuquerque, NM in 1976, it has become one of the largest innovative crime control tools and intelligence networks in the world. Kankakee County Crime Stoppers formed in 1981 to serve the Kankakee area. A board of directors with representatives from the business and private sector monitor the program.

Crime Stoppers is designed to aid law enforcement officers by obtaining information about unsolved felony crimes. (815) 932-7463 is the untapped telephone line that anyone can call and confidentially give information about criminal activity to the police. Callers will be assigned a code number and therefore remain anonymous. Cash rewards of up to $1,000 are offered for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of major crime offenders and felony fugitives.

Crime Stoppers funding comes from donations from villages, private individuals and businesses.

kameg badge Report Drug dealing or other illegal activity through Kancomm or KAMEG. Residents are always welcome to contact us about illegal drug activity directly through our communications center by calling our non-emergency number, (815) 933-3321, or in an emergency by calling 9-1-1. However, we are also members of Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG), which is a multi jurisdictional unit which deploys proactive strategies on crimes involving controlled substances, cannabis, guns and street gang-related offenses.  KAMEG is comprised of sworn police officers from the Bourbonnais, Bradley, and Kankakee Police Departments, as well as the Illinois State Police. The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office also is an invaluable partner and is a member as well.  KAMEG provides a wide array of drug enforcement services to the residents of Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford counties.    KAMEG targets distribution groups which are comprised of serious offenders, drug trafficking organizations and street gang members.

This unit utilizes a two-prong approach to drug and gang enforcement through the use of covert and overt groups aimed at street-to-middle and upper-level drug distributors.

For more information on either KAMEG or Kancomm, please visit the following sites: http://kmeg.org/ or http://www.kan-i-help.org/agency_profile.asp?agency_id=289&letter=K.
