Missing Person Protocol

Missing Persons reports are taken anytime, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is no waiting period required before a missing persons report can be taken. If you need to make a missing person report, please contact Kancomm at either 9-1-1 for emergencies or (815) 933-3321 for non-emergency situations and an officer will be sent to your location. Photographs and information on a missing person will be entered into Law Enforcements Agencies Data System (LEADS) and the FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC), but will NOT be placed on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or any other social media forum without the written consent of the reporting person. Once granted, we will be happy to post the information to our sites at your request. It is the reporting person’s responsibility to contact us if the missing person returns on their own so their information can be removed in a timely manner.

Silver Alert/Endangered Missing Person Advisory is a type of missing person’s report that involves the following criteria:alzheimer patient

  • The person is missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances.

  • The person is believed to be in danger because of age, health, mental or physical disability, environment, weather conditions, or in the company of a potentially dangerous person or some other factor that may expose the person to possible harm or injury.

  • Public information is available that could assist in the safe recovery of the person.

  • The circumstances do not fit the criteria of an AMBER Alert.

The “Endangered Missing Person Advisory”, sometimes referred to as the “Silver Alert”, allows the Kankakee Police to provide yet another valuable tool for law enforcement to work together with citizens so we may better protect our community. We also encourage you to use the Premise Alert Program, which is described below.
